Dear friends,
Welcome to May and the month dedicated to our Blessed Mother. There is a modest shrine in our church with a statue of Our Lady under the title “Sedes Sapientiae” (Seat of Wisdom). The statue depicts Mary cradling the young Jesus in her arms. “Sedes” is very familiar to many of the priests and seminarians of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. She is the patroness of the Sulpician Fathers (The Society of Priests of Saint-Sulpice) who own and staff St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore and Theological College of the Catholic University of America. “Sedes” statues were in each of our rooms back “in the day.” The Sulpician Fathers are diocesan priests dedicated to the training and formation of other diocesan priests. At the invitation of Archbishop John Carroll, the Sulpicians came to Baltimore and opened St. Mary’s Seminary in 1791! Fr. Oberle, who assists us on weekends is a Sulpician as was Fr. Connelly in his initial years of priesthood. Our modest shrine to Our Lady will be up thru the month of May.
Please feel free to bring your flowers and place them around the shrine.
One Sunday in May, every year, a “Mass Attendance Count” is taken. This count helps us keep track of how many are attending Mass on a given weekend as well as their age cohort and ethnic background. The information gathered is used for planning purposes. No personal identifying information is requested. As has been the custom at Seton over the years, we will conduct the count after the opening hymn.
As you know, the American Red Cross uses our social hall quarterly for blood donations. During 2022, 494 individuals donated blood at SETON. The next blood drive is this Thursday (11th) from 11:00am – 4:30pm.
HELP WANTED – EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS!!! With the pandemic behind us, the Church is encouraging local parishes to re-institute the reception of Holy Communion under both forms (bread & wine). Before we can return to sharing in the Precious Blood at communion time, we need more EMs. If you are interested, give Laryessa a call in the parish office who will refer you to the coordinator for the ministry.
Msgr. Richard Woy, Pastor
