Seton Weekly Update 9/30/22

Posted on September 30, 2022 in: General News

Dear Friends,

At this Sunday’s 11:00 AM Mass, I will acknowledge and bless this year’s Pastoral Council. The primary duty of the pastoral council is to serve as a wisdom body for me in understanding and developing strategies to respond to the pastoral and spiritual needs of the parish. I have enjoyed working with pastoral councils in every parish in which I have been assigned and I look forward to working with SEAS’s council.  I am grateful for those who serve:  Bob Healy (chair), Bill Sapero (vice-chair), Bob Logue (secretary), Ruth Gavlak, Emily Gretz, Roseanne Harner, Steve Lakin, Brian McGrath, Bridget Shepherd, Peggy Smail, Melanie Smith and Gerry Turnbow.  Minutes of the monthly meetings are posted on the parish website.

We welcome Sacred Heart Council Knights of Columbus this weekend.   Members of the council will be selling raffle tickets after Mass for the benefit of the council’s charitable and scholarship programs.  The drawing will take place on October 8th.

This Friday (7th) is the feast of Our Lady of Victory (Rosary)!   A living rosary will be prayed at 7pm in the Church.  Pope Francis has encouraged Catholics across the world to pray the rosary for world peace, especially in Ukraine.

I want to remind everyone of weekly devotions at the parish.  Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place every Tuesday from the conclusion of 9:00 AM Mass until 12 Noon.  On Wednesday, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy is prayed after the morning Mass.

Whatever happened to the parish church bells?!?  The bells have not been working since early summer. Currently, Liam Benton is trying to find a company that can both fix the problem (whatever it is) and help maintain our bell system moving forward. It appears that the post-pandemic “great resignation” has impacted companies that do this kind of work.  I can attest that the bells do work….On Tuesday morning at 2:00 AM, I was awakened by the loud ringing of our church bells.  This unwelcomed concert lasted for 20 minutes.   My apologies to the Seton Woods community.

HELP WANTED!  The parish is still in the market for a coordinator of digital communication. The position is responsible for maintaining the parish website, publishing the weekly bulletin and assuring the parish’s presence on a host of social media platforms.  If interested, contact the Liam Benton or Sarah Jarzembowski.

Next Sunday is DONUT SUNDAY following the 9:30 Children’s Liturgy of the Word Mass.   We want to expand CLOW to every Sunday but need additional volunteers to do so.  If interested, contact Sarah Jarzembowski in the parish office.

Have a good week!

Msgr. Woy
