FAITH FORMATION CALENDAR 2007-2008

Vatican II brought about a renewed understanding of Christian life for us as members in a Community of Faith. At St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Faith Formation is a major part of our mission. it provides opportunities for spiritual growth and enrichment for young people and their parents. it address Message, Worship, Service, and Community.

The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, (C.C.D.) was dissolved over 30 years ago. Catechesis is now expressed as Continuing Christian Development for ALL the people of God. The concept of Faith Formation (F.F.) emphasizes the on-going journey as a follower of Christ. We never outgrow our relationship with God.

GOALS

Faith Formation deals with the experience of Christian life, Catholic teachings, and their meaning in daily life, which include:
a) deepening of faith,
b) shaping the moral attitudes, and
c) widening the awareness
of the young person's role in the Church.

Neighborhood and School Catechesis Program 2007-2008 Calendar

Seton Parish's formal Faith Formation program is held in either the homes of the catechists or at the School of the Incarnation, with small groups of young people in Levels K through 12. Each group's meeting time and day are left to the discretion of the catechist in the home. The School of the Incarnation sessions are held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 p,m, to 7:45 p.m. The curriculum for elementary levels is "Share the Joy" from Benziger Publishing Company. Level 7 and 8 use "Discovering" from St. Mary's Press. Levels 9 and 10 use "Connect" from Silver, Burdett & Ginn. These programs guide the trained catechists in sharing faith with the young people.

Family Catechesis

This is an informal Faith Formation program in which the family is responsible for sharing the faith with their youngsters, using the curriculum and resources available through the Faith FormationOffice. Throughout the year, family gatherings are held to assist the parents in catechizing their youngsters. An interview with the Director of Faith Formation / Coordinator for Youth Ministry is the best way to determine if this program is appropriate to a particular situation.

Christian Initiation of Children (C.I.C.)

The Catechumenate process is for young people, ages 7 to 17, who are unbaptized and/or uncatechized. It is based on the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), and is set up specifically to be understood by young people with the guidance of a catechist and a sponsor family. An interview with the Coordinator of Faith Formation is required.

Mothers' Morning Out  2007 - 2008 Calendar

This is a time set aside for mothers with infants or toddlers up to three years of age. The mothers have the opportunity to meet with others and discuss various topics on an adult level, while their child(ren) are cared for in an adjoining room.

Catholic Schools

Seton Parish supports the School of the Incarnation, located at 2601 Symphony Lane, Gambrills, MD.  Telephone: 410.519.2285.  Tuition assistance is also offered on a case-by-case basis.

Sacramental Life

The Immediate Sacramental Preparation programs at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish are free-standing. This means that preparation is IN ADDITION TO, not in conjunction with, the weekly Faith Formation sessions. Parents are reminded that a young person's readiness to receive and regularly participate in the sacrament is paramount. Age is not necessarily the determining factor when deciding to prepare for and receive a sacrament.

Information regarding Immediate preparation for parent and child/teenager for the sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation is available upon request.
